My son, the bass player

My son, Matthew, is in a band named Jealous Type. They were one of eleven semi-finalists in WMMR's Philly Rock Idol contest. As the top vote-getting band among all eleven, they face off against the other two highest vote getters at the Manayunk Brewery & Restaurant tomorrow night—Thursday, 25 March—at 7:00 PM.

A dream began to come to me in 1963, when I first heard the Beatles. My youngest brother, Bruce, with a presumably similar dream, went to the same school from which Quincy Jones, Steve Vai, Branford Marsalis, Joe Zawinul, John Scofield, Jan Hammer, Ernie Watts, Bill Frisell, Al Di Meola, Aerosmith, Mike Stern and Paula Cole (among others) graduated. Neither of us saw our dream fulfilled. Maybe my son—Bruce's nephew—will.
